The Bozeman Sculpture Park Lecture Series Continues with Steve Connell

On Wednesday evening, June 19th at 6:30 pm, sculptor Steve Connell will offer a lecture on his work as part of the Bozeman Sculpture Park (BSP) 2013 Lecture Series. Connellís lecture will focus on his sculpture in the Park titled, Cartoon.

The piece, standing ten feet tall, is bright yellow, steel form that calls to mind a cartoonish sketch of an animal form, and old fashioned film projector. The artist says, Cartoon "toys with the under currents we tend to find in humor – the hilarious, the frivolous, and the sinister."

Connell is a professional sculptor and rancher from Charlo, MT. He taught sculpture at the University of Montana for nearly thirty years. Curator Brad Allen reflects, "Connell has been a dominant figure in Montana sculpture. Half the people that we contacted to be part of the 2012 Montana Invitational Show went to UM and studied with Steve, a lot of roads lead back to him."

Bozeman Sculpture Park will conclude its annual lectures series with Steve Connell. The lecture will be held in the large Community Room of the Bozeman Public Library from 6:30-8pm, followed by a reception for the artist. All lectures in the BSP series are free and are welcome to all.

Tours of the park are available upon request by contacting BSP at info@bozemansculpturepark.org.
