The Bozeman Sculpture Park Lecture Series Continues with Danny Kraus

On Wednesday evening, May 15th at 6:30 pm, sculptor Danny Kraus will offer a lecture on his work as part of the Bozeman Sculpture Park (BSP) 2013 Lecture Series. Kraus’s lecture will focus on his sculpture in the Park titled, "Three Ancient Harmonies." The piece, standing nearly 9 feet tall, is a steel harp form with three dangling granite pillars. Curator Brad Allen explains, "Kraus shows sensitivity to brut materials. Boulders are delicately suspended, solid steel discs are balanced, and sophisticated lines flow through thick metal rods. He employs material and form with a more 'eastern' sensibility," and is inspired by his extensive travels and diverse cultural experiences.

Danny Kraus is a professional sculptor from Arlee, MT. He studied in the undergraduate ceramics and sculpture program at Montana State University in the late seventies, and in 1996 settled in western Montana where he has been a successful public artist. The time between school and his art career included a whirlwind of cultural experience, including working for an Alaskan fishery, working on a research ship in China, reintroducing large cats to the wilds of Africa, training elephants in Oregon, and climbing the Alps.

A series of lectures by each artist whose work was installed in the Bozeman Sculpture Park for the 2012 Montana Invitational, curated by University of Montana Professor Brad Allen, will take place each month through June 2013. All lectures will be held in the large Community Room of the Bozeman Public Library from 6:30-8pm, followed by a reception for the artist. All lectures in the BSP series are free and are welcome to all.

Tours of the park are available upon request by contacting BSP at info@bozemansculpturepark.org.
